Microsoft announced a sweeping shake-up of its executive ranks Thursday, placing new executives over operations facing fierce new competition from Google, Apple and mobile phone makers.

Labor protests in the high-tech industry are rare, but IBM is in midst of one and it's unfolding entirely online.

Lenovo's European bosses are determined to make the Chinese PC maker one of the top two players both in Europe and worldwide.

Acer is set to become the first top-tier computer company to launch a low-cost laptop. Wang Jen-tang, chairman, said there were markets for low-cost computers and ultra-mobile PCs, and that Acer would launch products for these markets during the second and third quarter of this year. 

Four of the largest newspaper companies in the United States – New York Times Co., USA Today publisher Gannett, Los Angeles Times publisher Tribune Co. and San Francisco Chronicle publisher Hearst – are teaming up to create an online advertising sales network focused on premium advertisers seeking a national audiences. 

Montalvo Systems, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based company, has come up with a design for a chip for portable computers and devices that will theoretically be capable of running the same software as chips from Intel or AMD

The Disneyland Resort this week teamed up with Microsoft, HP, software provider Lifeware and home builder Taylor Morrison to create an attraction featuring digital home technologies of the future.
