IBM is repackaging its virtualization software as PowerVM for small and mid-sized businesses to allow virtualized IBM System i and System p proprietary servers to better compete with virtualized x86 servers. 

Acer has purchased 75 percent of the parent company of European electronics maker Packard Bell effectively sealing Acer's bid to keep Chinese rival Lenovo from acquiring Packard Bell and gaining a foothold in Europe, where Acer enjoys strong sales. 

Two undersea telecommunication cables were cut earlier this week, knocking out Internet access to much of Egypt, disrupting the world's back office in India and slowing down service for some Verizon customers. 

Sony posted a small rise in quarterly operating profit and cut its outlook as weaker markets eat into its investments and a firmer yen hurts overseas sales.  

Hewlett-Packard said Wednesday that it has developed a method to use post-consumer, recycled plastic inside its printer ink cartridges.
